Real Talk: Roundtable Discussions on issues
impacting the Black GLBTQ Communities

Round Table Discussion Topics:

1:00 – 3:00 P.M. Hip Hop Homo: Is Hip Hop Music Homophobic?

Facilitated by a local hip-hop radio station DJ (TBA) - This discussion will explore the long and ambivalent relationship hip hop music and lifestyle has had with the Black gay community. Years ago, house music reigned supreme in the Black gay and lesbian lifestyle, but today, particularly among young gay and lesbian youth, hip hop music has been embraced by the community in spite of its blatant homophobic lyrics. The marriage of hip hop and homosexuality has created a divide in the Black with surprising new fault lines. Come and participate in this light and refreshing roundtable discussion about the lifestyle, the music, and how they both shape the identity of our communities.

3:00 – 5:00 P.M. Why 2 Prides? Community Building Among St. Louis’ Black and White GLBTQ Communities.

This round table discussion will focus on what steps need to take place for community cohesiveness among St. Louis’ African American and White gay and lesbian communities. Come and explore what we have in common, and what makes us different, and how we can celebrate those differences, and work together to improve the over-all gay community in St. Louis. Ever wonder why we have 2 Prides? Find out why at this round table.  This discussion will be facilitated by the presidents of both Pride St. Louis and St. Louis Black Gay & Lesbian Pride Committee.

But rather than a static representation of our daily problems, this film introduces us to new characters that may be our neighbors in real life but are rarely seen on television and the big screen.  (Showtime 7:00 PM)

Strange Fruit
